(Journal of the Architectural Institute of Korea, Vol.12 No.7, July 1996)

ABSTRACT

The objective of the study is to interpret a typical Korean traditional settlement (Wontuh) for searching for the planning criteria of environmental friendly housing estates. The interpreting framework is three environmental ecological ideas as the adaptation to natural conditions, the cycling of material, and the reasonable energy system. Through the interpretation, it has been found out that Wontuh village has been developed to an environmental ecologically rational setting and has the meaningful planning elements for environmental friendly housing estates. Especially, the spatial components of Wontuh are characterized by the concepts of multi-function and diversity, which are worth of being considered as the important planning criteria of environmental friendly housing estates.
